He was a famous Blockade Runner during the Civil War - who commanded ships off the southern coast to get needed goods to the confederate army. He was never captured. As a Confederate Soldier, he was a Co. B in the 8th Georgia Infty. Bartow's Brigade and was transfered to the Navy.
