Jake Canova is President and Chief Executive Officer of PERFORMAX, a
Baltimore-based company that designs, manages and administers customized
employee health and benefit plans for a national market.
Mr. Canova has over twenty years of experience in health care benefit
administration. During the 1980s, Mr. Canova served as the Deputy
Assistant Secretary to the Department of Health and Human Resources for
the state of Louisiana, and was responsible for the statewide
administration of its billion-dollar Medicaid program.
Prior to joining PERFORMAX, Mr. Canova served as Chief Operating Officer
and President, Chief Executive Officer of First Health Services, Inc. He
played a key role in bringing the company to national prominence. His
initiatives addressed health care access, quality and cost control
through creative programs that coupled traditional utilization review
with on-line real-time technology. The Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM),
Behavioral Management and Preventive Health programs are just a few of
the highly successful initiatives developed under his leadership. Mr.
Canova attributes the success of the company to his focus on new product
development, enhanced services to customers and aggressive sales and
marketing.
Mr. Canova received both a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s
degree in social work administration from Louisiana State University. In
addition, he holds a master’s in business administration from Virginia
Commonwealth University. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.
