Constant BOURQUARDEZ came to the United States in 1833 with his Father, Mother and Sisters, locating first in St. Augustine then homesteaded near downtown Tampa on the Hillsborough River between 1847 & 1850. He became a citizen 23 May 1845 in St. Augustine.
Constant Bourquardez, a native of Alsace, France, came to Tampa in 1850. As a volunteer, and for his services during the Billy Bowleg's War, the Federal Government awarded him a warrant of 160 acres of land. The tract extended from Constant Street (named in his honor) to Henderson Avenue and and from Franklin Street to the river. He built old McKay homestead and the famous Orange Grove Hotel.
