Joan YOUNGBLOOD NEWPORT NEWS - Joan F. Youngblood passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.

Joan was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1932. She moved to the Peninsula in 1962 where she began a creative writing career in advertising that was highlighted by her receiving the nationally recognized ADDY award. Joan was an active member of several volunteer and civic organizations. She has been a proud member of Hilton Village's St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for 48 years. Joan was an avid reader, enjoyed watching sports, and cherished animals; but in her kind heart she held her love for her family most dear. Her unwavering faith and inner strength are guiding lights for her family.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony M. and Mary Louise Fairbanks.

She is survived by her children, Russell Youngblood and his wife, Linda Lombardi, Michael Youngblood and his wife, Leslynn Youngblood, and her daughter, Kathy M. Brown; her brother and sisters, Antonica Fairbanks, Michael Fairbanks and his wife, Lois Fairbanks, and Jean Fairbanks; her Aunt Antonica Canova "Aunt Dolly"; her grandchildren, Mary Katherine Youngblood, Michael Youngblood Jr., Katherine J. The family would like to thank the exceptional medical team whose tireless efforts graced the family with an extra decade to be with their beloved sister, mother, aunt, and Nana.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall. An engraved leaf in Joan's honor will be added to the Tree of Remembrance.
